Interview by Alex Anderson, Director of Operations at TechArtista

With the increase in vaccine distribution and conversations about all facets of life starting to reopen and "go back to normal," it is beginning to feel like there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel that has been the Covid-19 pandemic over the past year. Still, never has it been more important to continue to take care of ourselves and the people around us. I had the tremendous pleasure of sitting down and chatting with a long-time member at our downtown location, Kacie Smart MA, LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), who has made mental health her priority throughout the pandemic.

Kacie is the founder of Smart Counseling Solutions LLC and the co-founder of Colorful PsychoEd. She is incredibly passionate about helping people. And I know this first hand because I've been attending her sessions in person (before the pandemic) and virtually (during) and have achieved a lot of personal growth through her sessions. Kacie first came into the world of coworking after she decided she wanted to start establishing her own private practice that is meant to be more inclusive and affordable for all people. Kacie's work is so important, and we're grateful that we've been able to support her while she simultaneously supports us. That's one of the most beautiful relationships in coworking.

Enjoy our conversation below, and learn about ways to connect with Kacie and the work she is involved in!

"Mental health and wellness have always been important, but the pandemic has highlighted this and empowered many to take the steps to get the help they need."

Hey Kacie! Thanks for sitting down and chatting with me today. So, let's just dive right in. How do you describe the work you do to other people?

I am a healer, a helper, and an advocate for positive change. I am a licensed therapist in MO, and I use my skills to help individuals, organizations, and communities be their best. This may be through therapy, coaching, or consulting.

How did you find this path in life?

I've always naturally been a helper. The person people come to for support, so I guess that was my inspiration- people. Seeing people happy makes me happy. Helping people make positive changes makes me feel good. Collaborating with others to improve the world keeps me inspired.

What types of clients do you serve?

My clients are anyone looking to improve themselves and/or others. Those who want to make positive change, whether in their personal lives, at work, in the community, wherever. I am here for those looking to change for the better.

How long have you been a member of TechArtista, and what do you love and/or hate about it?

I have been a member downtown since 2018. As I established my private practice, I wanted a space to bring clients into that felt comfortable. I also needed an affordable space that I could grow into. This was the perfect solution, and as I continue to grow my business, I know I have a space to fit my needs.

How has the current pandemic affected you and your business – positively or negatively?

In general, the pandemic has brought a positive change. Mental health and wellness have always been important, but the pandemic has highlighted this and empowered many to take the steps to get the help they need. It has also helped me be creative about how my services are delivered. Telehealth has become part of the new normal which is nice because it can be much more convenient for my clients and me. Online learning has also seen a boost, and both allow me to serve others more effectively.

Care to share a fun fact about yourself or your business?

I am a huge mindfulness advocate. It just makes me happy and it works! I have had so much positive change in myself and my clients when we are able to tune in, to slow down, and be present.

What is your biggest source of inspiration to help people?

I have two children who are my world, a 1-year old son and a daughter, who will be 5 in April. I am super close to my family, and they are what keep me going. I wouldn't be who I am without them.

Do you have any big news you would like to share?
