Drawing WITHIN Drawing WITHOUT to Close December 1st
TechArtista presents our newest art exhibition "Drawing Within, Drawing Without." Curating this collection is painter Jeremy Rabus, St. Louis native and studio facilitator at Living Arts Studio. His works have been exhibited in several cities including New York City, Los Angeles, and of course, his hometown of St. Louis. Rabus uses a process of layering and excavating, arranging overlapping colors and intertwining textures to ultimately tell a story of the paintings' creation. All paintings in the collection engage the viewer with their abstracted use of symbols and imagery, with varying uses of light, hue, contrast, shape, contour, and texture.
Along with his own paintings, this show also features works by local artists Gina Alvarez, Chip Beers, and Dana Richard Smith. Alvarez serves as the Executive Director of the VSA of Missouri and is also a Teaching Artist at Living Arts Studio in Maplewood. Alvarez draws inspiration from European philosopher, Gaston Bachelard, using exaggerated two and three-dimensional images to evoke a sense of wonder in the viewer.
Beers is a seasoned painter from a family of strong artists. He creates his designs at Living Arts Studio, investigating bold shapes, colors, and compositions to bring magazine images to life in an intuitive and energetic manner.
Smith's works celebrate St. Louis' unique urban landscape, depicting images of local garages and storefronts. Using a traffic stop photograph for inspiration, Smith then applies spray paint and finishes with acrylic paint.
TechArtista is hosting a closing reception this Saturday, December 1st, from 11 am to 2 pm to allow for one last viewing of the collection and facilitate conversation between the guests and artists. Jeremy Rabus is set to speak at noon. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.
